In a distinguished research achievement, His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel, honored Prof. Ghulam Muhammad, Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at the College of Computer and Information Sciences, for winning first place in the Medical Research Track of the Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Award for Medical Research, Innovation, Health Education, and Medical Education in its fourth edition.The recognition took place during His Excellency’s patronage of the Fourth Annual Conference of Fakeeh Care Group, held in partnership with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and organized in Jeddah. The event was attended by a distinguished group of health leaders, experts, and practitioners representing various medical and healthcare specialties.The Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Award is regarded as one of the leading scientific awards in the Kingdom. It aims to support scientific research and innovation in medical and health-related fields and to encourage researchers to develop evidence-based solutions that contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services.Prof. Ghulam Muhammad received the award in recognition of his pioneering research on stroke rehabilitation through electroencephalogram (EEG) signal decoding and the integration of exoskeleton technologies. In this field, he has supervised three Ph.D. dissertations and two undergraduate graduation projects. Two of his related publications have been recognized as Highly Cited Papers according to Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science database. One of these publications, titled “Physics-Informed Attention Temporal Convolutional Network for EEG-Based Motor Imagery Classification” (IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics), constituted the primary research work underpinning the award.In alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes empowering persons with disabilities by providing access to education, employment opportunities, and tools that promote independence and social integration, Prof. Ghulam’s research leverages advanced artificial intelligence and neurophysiological methodologies to design and develop EEG-based hand rehabilitation systems. These systems aim to enhance recovery outcomes for stroke patients in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.This award reflects the research excellence and distinguished scientific contributions of the College of Computer and Information Sciences at King Saud University. It also underscores the College’s commitment to fostering a robust research ecosystem and advancing national expertise in medical and health-related disciplines.
